Willkommen in der Möwenstraße & Bienvenidos a Calle Gaviota

German Version of Welcome to Seagull Street

Welcome to Seagull Street Now Available in: German Kindle Version | Spanish Kindle Version

When Amazon KDP reached out to me earlier this week about participating in their new Translator Services beta program for Kindle ebooks, I was immediately intrigued. The idea of making Welcome to Seagull Street: That Summer in Ocean City, Maryland, available to a broader, global audience felt like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

So… I went for it.

Within days, my debut novel had been run through Amazon’s AI-powered translation engine and is now available in both German and Spanish. Seeing the titles Willkommen in der Möwenstraße and Bienvenidos a Calle Gaviota is a little surreal. It’s one of those “wow, this is really happening” author moments!

Will the story resonate with readers in other countries? I’m not entirely sure and that’s part of what makes this so interesting. What I do think is universal, though, is the heart of the story: friendships, second chances, complicated relationships, and figuring out who you are when life doesn’t go as planned. Add in the backdrop of Ocean City, Maryland, with its mix of Boardwalk energy and quieter bayside moments, and I’m hopeful that readers everywhere can connect with it in their own way.

I’m especially curious how the cultural details will land. There’s a lot of real-life texture in this book, from local references to the rhythms of summer at the beach, and I like to think that gives international readers a more authentic glimpse into this world than what they might typically see portrayed on American television shows and movies.

This is definitely new territory for me. I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting my storytelling to stay human and grounded, so using AI for translation raises some interesting questions. But if it helps more readers discover the story, and experience Seagull Street from wherever they are, that feels like a worthwhile step.

If you or someone you know reads in German or Spanish, I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think. This is very much an experiment, and I’m excited to see where it leads.
