Until recently, Facebook was my main place to promote book signings and other author activities. I could link directly to the bookstores hosting me, festivals where I’d be appearing, and fellow authors taking part.
Now, many professional Facebook accounts face a monthly limit on posts and comments containing external links. For authors who depend on those links to help readers find book and event details, the free allotment of two links per month is practically useless. Higher allowances come with paid Meta One plans.
Here are the Facebook subscription plans (as of Oct. 20) for Meta One:
1. Free Plan (No Subscription)
- Cost: $0/month
- Link Limit: 2 external links per month (in either posts or comments). If you try to post a third link, you’ll get a notification that you’ve used up your links for the month.
- Note: The standard Essential Plan ($14.99/mo) provides verification benefits but keeps you capped at this same 2-link monthly limit.
2. Advanced Plan
- Cost: $49.99/month per profile
- Link Limit: Up to 8 posts or comments with links per month.
3. Expert Plan
- Cost: $149.00/month per profile
- Link Limit: Up to 20 posts or comments with links per month.
4. Max Plan
- Cost: $499.00/month per profile
- Link Limit: Unlimited posts and comments with links
One option is to direct readers to the profile/bio links, like we have to do on Instagram. But that adds an extra user burden into the process. The other option for events is to make a separate Facebook event page for each activity, which could get confusing fast with multiple Facebook event pages for the same event.
Overall, I’ve noticed engagement and reach on Facebook and Instagram dropping significantly over the past month (October 2026). Will Meta keep this strategy or roll it back if not enough people pay and usage goes down?
A question for fellow small business owners: Have these limits appeared on your account? How are you sharing your information and activities?
